BAND CARNIVAL.

MEETING OF GENERAL COMMITTEE

A meeting of the Citizens' Band Carnival Committee was held last night. Mr. S. G. Smith, M.P., presided, and there were aloe present: Messrs E. Sole, H. R. Cattley, K Coleman, R. L. Mcllroy, R. A. Large, P. J. Flannagan, T. Petty, R. Kibby, and O. J. Howarth (secretary). Apologies for absence were received from Messrs F. W. G. McLaod and A. Miine.

The statement of approximate receipts and expenditure in connection with the carnival was read by the secretary, and showed the total receipts to have been £289 4s 7d and the expenditure £B3 15s 3d. The net result of tho carnival for the band, therefore, was the realisation of the sum of £205 9s 4d. The statement was received, and the accounts as read were passed for payment.

A letter was received from Mrs. G H. Burgess, who controlled the refreshment stalls, forwarding a statement, with the money, three days after the ca.rnival was held, and stating that all expenses in connection with the same had been paid and the amount handed over was £46 2s lOd. Mrs. Burgess said she wished to thank the Ground Committee and Mr. Howarth for their attention to the ladies' needs, and "a big word of praise U due to tho men who kept the ladie\ perfectly supplied with boiling water for tea-making during the rushes."

I Special appreciation was expressed of the manner in which the schools entered into the tug-of-war competition, especially the facT, that so large a number of teams entered, and from so far away as Stanley Road.

On behalf of the band and the Citizens' Committee, Mr. IC. Sole expressed thanks to tfie Carnival Committee for their interest in the band and the splendid effort made to assist in paying off the mortgage on the new bandroom. Mr. F. ColomiUi supplemented Mr. Solo's remarks. ■

A general vote of thanks was passed to all thoso who assisted in making the carnival a success, also to those wlw gave cash donations and gifts of goods, etc. The committee felt that when there were so many who gave liberally it would be invidious to mention names' A vote of thanks was alio accorded to the press. On the motion of the chairman, a special vote of thanks was passed to the secretary for his services.
