BURNED AT SEA.
FATE OP AMERICAN S&ARQUE By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Dec. 28. The General Poet Office received the following wireless from the Chathams to-day:—lt its reported that the ship Aryan, bound from Wellington to San Francisco, was burned 300 miles east of Chatham Islands and abandoned on Christmas evening. Captain Larsen and ,thirteen of the erew in two boats landed at Kaingaroa at 11 p.m. yesterday. Ono boat, with the first and second mates and six men, is still at sea. The local Customs officer is endeavoring to send out a local launch to search. The weather is favorable. The American barque Aryan, burnt at ,sea, arrived at Wellington from San Francisco on October 10th, with cases of oil and general cargo, consigned to Levin and Co. She left here for Frisco on the 18th inst., with a full cargo of flax, and tallow. The vessel is of 1039 tiios nett., and was ibuilt in 1893.
