ENTERTAINMENTS.

! DANCE RECITAL. ;:, A " The dance recital given in the Good Templar Hall last night by Misa Bedford's pupils attracted a large assemblage;, which thoroughly enjoyed the programme presented. The entertainment was of a class hitherto unknown locally, and the. innovation proved an undoubted success. The dancing mistress and the pupils are to be complimented on the 'excellence of the performance, both in the matter of variety and execution.

The ballet d'oi was an appropriate opening, the performers being Misses M. Tiplady, M. Mouat, C. Moverlsy, 0- Palmer, D. Bedford, and 1?. Mouat., With the inclusion oi Misses T. Monteath and A. AVilson, the same ladies gave the fleur d'amour ballet, with ranch grace, the latter being onu of the prettiest dancps of the evening. The fairy dance given by five little girls (Peggy Mclsaae, Queen, Mona Ward, Molly Tuohy, Dell Roebuck, and Betty Fi agar) was a charming number. The setting of this dance was most attractive, and the enthronement of the Queen in an enormous water lily made a pretty centre-piece. Ji very cleverly-executed number was the dance of the wood nymphs, by Misses C. Moverlcy and 0. Palmer, which was an interpretation of a pretty little spring scene in the woods. The remaining dance was an Egyptian, vase dance by Misses A. Wilson, D. Bedford, andJVT. Mouat- This was, the most exae'tm* item offered, and was given with much grace and charm. . Two , songs anil choruses .completed the items given by Miss Bedford's pupils. Those were Rung by the ladies who gave the ballet dances, tine soloist in the first ("The Kiss Dance") being Miss D. Jordan, and ill the second ("Anzacs Everyone'') Miss Oliver. ,

To assist Miss Bedford were Mies Leyithnm ,(solo pianiste), who played Paderewski's "Minuet," and Mrs."Birch-John-ston, who was much enjoyed in her character sketches. Her programme numbers were "That's How I Lost Him" rtnd "Rosie's Relations," and she had to give double encores at each appearance. Mr. Crawford (Wellington), who gave Jus first performance in New Plymouth, was greatly appreciated He opened with sn excellent interpretation of "Ecnry Before Harfleur' arid was twice recalled. In the second part ha gave a musical sketch entitled "Some Water Scenes," and in response to - a recall, gave an amusing character sketch' and a Tery clever eccentric dance, Mrs Birch-Johnston and Mr. Crawford gave some highly diverting "Impressions from Every-day life," and had to re-appear, singing *3Deav Old Home of Mine"' The accompaniments were-played by Miss E, Bennett. Miss Lcatham. Mr, Sturroiic. and Miss Nlta Oliver. The recital will be repeated to-night.
