Admiral Lord Jellicoe is to visit the Dominions and India in February to advise the authorities on naval matters. —Reuter Service, via America.
FIGHTING THE SUBMARINES. ■ in— SUCCESSFUL NAVAL HOAX London, Dec. 20. It is stated that the Admiralty made the Dover barrage in the Straits of Dover effective by causing fictitious plans to fall into the enemy's hands, thus scaring submarines away. It is now stated that it was a hoax, stagemanaged on a comprehensive scale. The so-called plans were found among the fictitious wreckage of a British warsnip cast ashore on the coast of Denmark, Where a British agent in the guise of a pro-German neutral sold the plans for £7500. The Germans found the barraga scheme so formidable that submarines were thereafter ordered to avoid the Straits of Dover.—Aus. N.Z. Cable Association.
