ENTERTAINMENTS.

THE EMPIRE, MODERN LORELEI. A UNIQUE MOTION PICTIiP.E, '"A Modern Lorelei," a delicate and beautiful picture, which commenced a three-night season at the Empire last evening, is a tale from the Greek classics told again with modem settings. The Lorelei was once a woman of fabulous beauty wiio spent her time upon an island and lured men to destruction there. The Lorelei of this pretty tale is an innocent girl who has a peculiarly strong, hut unconscious, power of fascinating men. She appeals to them so strongly that they cannot resist l:er, and as this attraction, is not mutual she leaves tliem broken. But she is rather mysterious.' There 13 something unknown about her birth, and she lives beside the sea as a little fishergirl These environments for her beauty make the film one of fascinating effects, with plenty of chances to interweave in it pretty glimpses from the olden phantasy on which this tale is based. Tyrone Power, the dramatic actor who played so co nspieuously in "Where Are My Children 1" is in one of the leading parts, and the graceful lady who is the Lorelei is Miss Frances Burnham. In "A Modern Lorelei" there are all sorts of captivating pictures of nymphs and naiads, all real human beings pictured for the occasion. This picture shows again tonight, at the matinee to-morrow afternoon, and finally to-morrow night- Falling into line with the other . picture theatres throughout the Dominion, the price of admission will be: Dress circle Is 3d and Stalls 9d, (inclusive of tax), from to-night. EVERYBODY'S^ LAST NTGIIT OF BILL HART IN "THE PATRIOT," To-night will be the last opportunity offered picture patrons toWiew the gripping drama "The Patriot," starring the virile William S. Hart, This is also the last screening occasion of the first episode of that thrilling Pat-he serial "The Fatal Ring," with popular-Pearl White in the leading part.

COMING TO-MORROW. MADGE EVANS IN "WANTED A MOTHER." Commencing at the matinee to-mor-row, the charming little World film favorite, Madge Evans, will star in a Btory of exceptional beauty entitled "Wanted a Mother." DANCING RECITAL. While dancing items occasionally figure on the programmes of certain classes of entertainments, it is rarely the case that those form the major portion of a programme. This, however, •is actually to !-c so aifthe Boxing night entertainment i:> bo given in the Good Templar Hall. Miss Bedford, who has a select class of pupils, will present them in a number of. new. and fancy dances which have never before been seen on the public platform locally. The dances are of a very bright, character, and their variety will be one of the chief delights of the entertainment. The daintiness of ihe fairy dances is bevond compare, and their "ethereal lightness will lift those who see them, for the time being, right out of the realm of things material. The dressing of these is the acme of superb delicacy, and a perfect revelation in. costume effects. A great deal of thought and preparation has been bestowed also on ' the several bright ballet dances that will be produced, the color schemes for which have been specially designed and worked out. Altogether a programme of very highclass character will be presented. A great deal of care is also being given to the decoration not only of the stage but. ef the whole hall, and this in itself will produce an effect- which it will be well worth anyone's while to see. Tn such entertainments a heavy burden must of necessity fall upon, the accompanist for the dancer, and to ensure absolute success in this direction, Miss Bedford has been fortunate in Securing the services of Miss Elsie Bennett, L.A-fi.. A.T.Cik., whose anility to fiUsueh a role will be immediately conceded and the dancers could wish for. no better support in their efforts than will bo accorded them by Mips Bennett. To assist in the entertainment the services of Mrs Birch-Johnston, whose popularity with New Plymouth audiences increases with each appearance she makes, have been secured. She will be heard in some entirely new characteritems, as well as in. some of her old favorites. Miss Leatham, whose pianoforte work is always a greet delight to every audience before which she appears will contribute some items in,the prc.Gramroe. Tll addition, Mr \V Crawford, a popular entertainer from the Empire City will also participate. Mr Crawford' is a comedian of more than ordinary merit, the fact that he has been in constant demand for ;> Ion? period at the camp concerts at Trentham being sufficient, assurance of his ability, for it is well known with what acumen the "boys" appreciate such entertainments Mr Crawford does not altogether confine himself to the lighter side of oiitortnininsf. and is equally successful in serious and dramatic, work. ITe is in addition a most delightful eccentric dancer and will he seen in several items of this character. Patrons mav therefore look forward to a. full .evening's enjoyment of an unusual and a very high order. The entertainment will extent over a two-night season. Tickets are 2s each, and the plan is at Collier's, where seats rnny be reserved for a charge of Gd extra.
