ENDING THE STRIFE. . BETWEEN NORTH AND SOUTH, A CONFERENCE TO BE HELD-
Received Dec. 18, 1.50 a.m. Pekin, Dec. 16. The recent Allied aide-memoire to the Chinese Government had a remarkable effect. At a meeting of Cabinet the President read a telegram from the Canton Government, proposing a peace conference at Shanghai. Tuan Chi Jui, the leader of the militarists, agreed that Internal peace ought to be restored. Cabinet unanimously resolved to arrange a conference immediately, with a view to securing a cessation of strife between tha north andfftrath of China, as urged by I the Allies.—Heuter.
