ELTHAM.

(From Our Own Correspondent.)' Eltham, Dee. 17. At the last meeting of the Druids here, Bro. J. Kenny was reappointed Arch Druid, whilst the other offices were also filled by brothers familiar with these duties. Now the war is over, the Order hopes soon to have brethren working their utmost in the interests of their comrades, and the high standard readied in 1914 again attained, if not eclipsed. An old and ever-popular ex-Elthamite, Major Stone, was here last week. The Salvationist's stay was very brief, bui. he managed to look up many familiar faces. Major Stone's visit was more in the nature of a rest after a strenuous time in the Wairarapa fighting the influenza, which also troubled him and pulled him down somewhat, though many who saw the gallant major believed the short stoppage here was very beneficial. Christmas will see many of the inhabitants migrate to neighboring towns. The mountain is claiming Mr. and Mrs. •Buekeridge. who were both very active in fighting the epidemic. Dr. Cooper, it is understood, is also claiming a short respite from his labors. One of our large yctailers is stated to be closing down for a week or so, and some of the employees are already imagining they can see the seashore of Urenui. Pictures opened here on Saturday, but patronage was poor. Fear of contact with the invisible and undesirable microbe made many refrain from this sort of enjoyment for a few days longer, despite the intimation that the Town Hall was reported clean by the health inspector.
