A ciVil action was heard, in which Bannatyne and Co. claimed £2064 13s 4d from E. H. Christensen as damages for an oil cargo damaged in the sailor Bertie Minor through the influx of water during the voyage from San Francisco to Wellington. The defence elaimed that the damage was the result of the risk which every skipper took. The voyage was long and tempestuous, during the last three weeks, when off the New Zealand coast, when the rudder was carried away, the water getting into 'tween decks The vessel must have been seaworthy or could not have reached New Zealand. The jury returned a verdict for plaintiffs, awarding £IOO7 18s. HIDES, CALFSKINITAND TALLOW . EXPORTABLE i Wellington, Last Night. The Minister of Customs has granted a general permission for the exportation, of hides and calfskins to the United Kingdom and British possessions, and the exportation of tallow to British possessions and the United, States.
