THE EPIDEMIC.

POSITION IN NEW PLYMOUTH.

THE ORGANISATION DISBANDS,

ITS OBJECTS FULVIUJSD.

A conference of the executive of the Public Health Committee and of .the medical faculty was held last night, when, after thoroughly, discussing the position, it was decided" to disband.the organisation, which had carried out the objects for which it was established. A: far as the cases that are occurring now nr? concerned, it was felt that the medical faculty could cope with them, so that anv person now contracting influenza will require to get into communication with their own doctor.

As far as the country hospitals are concerned, they will be administered from the Hospital Board's office, and should communicate there in the event of anything being required. Several members of the organisation will be in attendance at the Hospi\l Board's office to render any assistance that may be required by the staff there. All the country hospitals will, of course, be gradually closed as the patients become convalescent. Tf, however, a recrudescence of the enidemic is to be avoided, it cannot be again too strongly impressed on convalescents the necessity of strictly observing the injunction not to come into contact with well people until the expiration of a least a week nr ten days from the time that the patient is able to get about. The Patriotic Rooms, where the ladies have done such pro»t work in connection with the providing of food, etc., in the recent enidemic, closed last night, and will remain closed for a few days for cleaning purposes.

Eight,, new cases were notified in New Plymouth yesterday, none being serious. Owing to there being no organised canvass, ii was impossible to ascertain the nutate of recoveries. . ~

AT THE HOSPITAL"

The report received from the hospital at midnight last night shows that five influenza patients were admitted to the hospital yesterday, viz., one each from Waitara, Frankley Road and Okato, and j.two from Hillsborough. There was one death —Mrs. Florence Mary Penwarden, of Rugby Road, Tariki, aged 37. There were seven discharges of influenza patients ai \ one of other than influenza. There remains in the hospital 141 influenza patients, and 40 other eases—a total of 181. There were no admissions and no discharges at the men's convalescent home at Kawaroa Park, the number of patients there remaining at 23. At the women's convalescent home at the East End pavilion there were 7 admissions and 3 discharges, the number remaining in the institution being 26. At the Maori hostelry there was one admission from New Plymouth, and two deaths—Waka Stuart, Rahotu, and Violet Jackson, Wellington. There are 17 patients remaining in the hospital.

While conditions in the borough are returning to normal, the epidemic is hitting some of the country districts pretty badly. The organisation promoted to assist the farmers with their milking continues to render valuable services, and up to the present all who have.required help hav.i been supplied. To date theni have been 166 admissions to the temporary isolation hospital, 20 deaths, 98 transfers, and there are at present in the institution 39 patients r
