FATALITY AT KARAMEA.
FOUR PERSONS DBOWNED.

Wellington, Doc. 2. An awful tragedy occurred at Karamea la-;t nighi, aecumitiug for the lives of -Mrs, Theimer, two children, and a man, Harry 'Harris. Accounts show that Dr. Theimer, his wiie, and two children went out ironi haraiitca and spent t-oiue Jiitlo time on the Opartuu beach, ueouplo ui' miles to the north. The doctor rode on horseback, hut Mrs. Theimer and tii!! family were in a gig driven by Harry Harris.
On the way home at G o'clock the doctor fordsd the Oparara, the horse having to awiin from the south bank of tin; river. He sang out to hh\ wife that the tide was dangerous and that they had better go further down the stream, where it was thought the water wa3 shallower, 'Harris rlicl as directed. When half-way across the horse and gig got in a quicksand or pothole, or something of .the 'kind, and, after a few splaehes, all disappeared. The hody of Mr?. Theimer has been recovered, dearth parties arc out.
