It is taken from an old History of Franco written by Emile de Boimeehose and published Paris in 1848. The following is an absolutely literal translation of a paragraph appearing pn page, 63: "The following 1 year; (1705), led by!' 'No,' replied Peterborough, 'it can only be the Germans of the Prince of Darmstadt. Let me enter with my Englishmen, and I will come back and resume the negotiations.' Peterborough's tone of truth persuaded the Governor. The latter opened the gates, the English hunted out the Germans, and Peterborough, master of the town, came out again and resumed the negotiations."
