TARIKI.

(From Our Own J3orresp«Bdent. Tariki, Nov. 30.

I am pleased to hear that Mr. Kettle-, well, who in down with influenza, is making very good progress. In touching on the death of the late Jas. Mathers, I mentioned how the war and influenza, had fallen heavily pn this family. He left a widow and five children. Mrs. Mathers (nee Miss A. Kendrick) has lost a brother in the Expeditionary Force, and silso a brother-in-law, A. Chapman, who died of influenza whilst a member of the ill-fated 40th. Reinforcements.

At New Plymouth to-day J. Stackurski lost (his son, John, from influenza. The family farm at R&tapiko, but are well-known in Tariki. Deceased had been ailing for only a few days, and his age was about 20. Tariki residents are sorry to learn that Mrs. Penwarden, wife of the manager of Rugby Road factory, is still critically ill at New Plymouth, and all hope for more favorable reports during the next few days. Her husband, who has also Iliad the influenza, is making steady improvement.

Factories round here have been badly hit by the epidemic. With scratch teams they have managed to pull through, and now things are beginning to once again return to normal,

We are all more than sorry to hear of the death of young C. Hamblyn, who put up a gallant fight for' life in the Stratford, hospital (Melrose House). With admirable courage Mrs. Hamblyn, her daughters, tlhe son who was returned from tile front, and a younger brother, have determined to keep the farm going. Despite all the affliction the family has undergone during the past three years, tlhose surviving are still keeping a stout heart in the midst of their adversities and setting an example of fortitude that has won the admiration of all Tariki.
