CITY* COUNCIL TAKES ACTION. By-Telegtaph.—Press Association/ Auckland, Nov. 29. The revelations brought about by the epidemic, particularly in regard to the existence of slum areas and the prevalence of grossly insanitary conditions in certain quarters of the city, were discussed by the City Council last evening. Reports were presented by the Mayor, city engineer, chief sanitary inspector and city solicitor. As the result of recommendations by the Mayor, the council at its next meeting will consider a. proposal to embark on a progressive housing policy, for which purpose a loan of £250,000 is proposed, to increase the number of sanitary inspector.;, and obtain wider powers under the Public Health Act.
