AUSTRIA.
FOOD FOR THE POPULATION,
EN-EMPEROR'S APPEAL.
Washington, Nov. 23,
The ex-Emperor Charles, in an interview with an American news agency, £aid: ''The pressing need in Austria is for help from the United States. The danger of Bolshevism is growing serious, and not a single day should be lost by the Allies in obtaining food for the population. The suffering is certain to lie very great within the next few weeks. The former Government did its best, but food was unprocurable. If coal is not procured disorders in Vienna are certain. Bolshevism started in Russia because of lack of food. It is not l in the Allies' interests to allow Bolshevism to spread over Austria."
Also regarding the future the exEmperor Charles said he would only repeat that tie had done his duty, and hoped the future would bring peace, happier days, and a better understanding amongst all peoples. He showed no bitterness against the Allies. —Aus. N.Z. Cable Assoc.
