TARANAKI WOMEN TEACHERS.
MEETING OF ASSOCIATION. A general meeting of the Tarauaki Women Teachers' Association was held on Saturday afternoon, the president (Mrs- Dowling) being in the chair. Miss Andrews was elected delegate to the annual meeting of the New Zealand Women Teacher's Association, and it was decided to forward the following remit for consideration by the conference:— "That each position should have a fixed salary, and in the case of married teachers that there should be an additional allowance of £ls per annum for each child under 16 years of age." The president read a pamphlet from the N.Z.W.T.A., dealing with the resolutions -,'arried at ?, recent meeting of Otago headmasters and assistant-mas-ters, advocating an immediate rise of "0 pe? cent, in the salaries of all male teachers. Considerable discussion onsued, j<nd' eventHnlly a. resolution was oarried ,irotPsting against this proposal as constituting an injustice fo women teacher". Tfc tfas Ttlso decided to send a resolution tc the Education Board regretting the attitude taken up by the hoard ai the recent uniting in advocating increased par for male teachers, hut net in the same ratio for female raoher." This concluded the business of the meeting.
