TARANAKI HYDRO-ELECTRIC LEAGUE.
A meeting of the committee of the Taranaki Hydro-electric League was held at the Eitham Council on Wednesday, when those orc-eni. were: Messrs McMillan fStratford Borough, presiding), T. }i. Crump (Eltliaai Uorough), E. Waiter (Stratford County), A Morton (Taranaki County), G. Young (Inglevniod), .1. Clarke (New Plymouth.!, il. )3. Murdoch (Hawera Countv), McPhillips (Waimi'te VY.), R. 'H. Piggott (Cu"ton County), U 7 . Wright (llgmont County), and J. If. Lyon (Moa Road Hoard). Mr. R. If. Irwin acted as clerk. A letter from the Premier stating that he would be pleased to" receive a deputation from tho. league, and promising also at tac_concb.iF.ion of the war to promote the hydro-electric scheme, was received. Proposed rules were submitted to the meeting and were adopted. Mr. T. H- Perm, of Stratford, waa api)oiiv,>d auditor. Tho chairman stated that the deputation to tho Premier was due to go to Wellington on Wednesday next, but. members pointed out that it would be difficult to arrange a delegation by that d"te, seeing that it was not yet definitely decided that the delegation, was to go that day. It was decided to circularise all local bodies in this matter. Mr. McPhillips did not think that Taranaki would ever gain any assistance from tho ibig North Island selicm*. There was somi discussion regarding Taranaki's position in connection with the large scheme, delegates pointing out, that Taranaki might possibly be made somewhat of a ,: catspaw." They would have to tako up a somewhat parochial attitude or their claims would bo overshadowed by the claims of the other and main districts, it being already understood that the Taranaki sriieme was a subsidiary one. It was decided that when the delegation went to Wellington they should press for the putting in nand of the Taranaki subsidiary scheme simultaneously with the North Island scheme. It was agreed that it would he practically impossible to join in the deputation on the l"th inst. It was further decided that if Taranaki did not join that, delegation that the dairy factory and other interests be asked to join in the effort to boost the Taranaki scheme This concluded the business.—Atgus.
