ENEMY'S RAPID RETREAT. AMERICANS UNABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTACT. Washington, Nov. 2. Tho Germans, facing the Americans in the Verdun region, are retreating beyond the Freya positions. ENEMY SUCCESSES EVERYWHERE London, Nov. 3. Wireless German official: We withdrew, southward of- Deynze, behind tlie Scheldt. We evacuated Valenciennes. The enemy near Voucq advanced to the heights on the eastern bank of the Aisne and gained a footing at Falaise. The Americans gained territory on both sides of Bayonville.
