THE AMBURY MEMORIAL.
DESIGN APPROVED. A meeting of j.lie general cqjgguttee set up to consider the question of a memorial to the late Arthur Hamilton Ambury was held yesterday. Mr. W, A Coliis presided, and explained what had been done by tW sub-committee sat up to consider the design and location of thf. memorial. A copy of the design of the cairn decided apon was submitted and considered entirely satisfactory. Mr. Collis stated that the committee had selected what was known as the "horse paddoek" as the site for the cairn, that being close to the track and just before it entered the tosh after leaving the house. The Rev. W. A. Sinclair, who, with Mr. E. 0. Eottrill, had been delegated to select a suitable inscription for the tablet on the monument, reported, and the c alloxving was agreed to:— To commemorate the heroism of ArthiiT Hamilton Ambury, who gave his life in attempting to rescue William E. Ooiirlay, who slipped on the ise at an altitude of GSOOft, on Mount Egmont, on •Tune .1, 1!)1S. "Near to renunciation— v en' near dwelled eternal peace.'' The reports of the sub-committees were approved, and it was decided that on completion of *he cairn a suitable unveiling ceremony be held on a date to be fixed by the sub-committee.
