NATALITIES IN BUSH FIRES; Brisbane, Oct 31. While fighting bush fires near Barcaldie two men were burned to death. It is believed several others perished. There were severe losses of stock. DEFENCE DEPARTMENT " ■=L.:._. ECONOMIES Melbourne, Oct. 31. The Commission of Inquiry into the administration of the Defence Department made recommendations which will result in a saving of £2,250,000 to the Commonwealth.
