TAXATION OF WAR LOAN'S, By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Oct. 31. The Associated Chambers of Commerce' discussed three remits on the question of war and resolved—That this;, onferenco affirms the principle that war. loans shall not be issued free of taxation, and that the matter be referred to»| a special committee to immediately frame a resoUtfion upon the subject, and' that thereupon the executive urge the Minister to g'ive eifect thereto. SCIENTIFIC TAXATION. The Associated Chambers of Commerce passed a remit of Canterbury's that the Government be recommended to forthwith appoint a Royal Commission or arrange for a conference to inquire into the proper principles and incidence of taxation in New Zealand, and to make recommendations as to all taxes, whether direct or indirect, to be levied, for the year-commencing Agril 1, 1019. THE BANKRUPTCY LAW. A deputation from the annual conference of Associated Chambers of Commerce waited on Sir Francis 801 l this morning to urge an early improvement in the bankruptcy law. Mr. Gow (Dunedin) said the resolutions they came to support were larger/ those passed by the conference in 1009, so that they were requests of long standing. Sir Francis Be ll gave a definite promise to go into tbe matter during the recess, and endeavor to bring before the association of chambers of commerce an amendment of the. Act for consideration, and then, if ho were still in office, lie would bring proposals before Parliament,
