PIERROTS' PATRIOTIC EFFORT
A NOVELTY PROGRAMME. At a very largely-attended meeting of the Pierrots on Friday night, it was decided that the Pierrots' i'air—which will he practically the closing day of the campaign—shall ho Held on the sports ground in Pukekura Park an Thursday, November 28. Under the surprise-packet scheme on which they are concentrating, the public get something for their money each time. Each ticket gets.a prize, and while the purchaser may get a toothbrush or a pair of hootlaces, he may, on the other hand, get something in the way of furniture, silver, cutlery, or antique which is worth anything up to £75. That is where the publie will have the fun. The Pierrots aim to get '25,000 parcels, and are well on the .way to doing it. People who are' being canvassed in the town and country foj gifts ar<> responding liberally. Gifts may he left at the 'Mayoress' Patriotic Shop in Currls Street, and probably next week expresses will be sent round each district, in charge of the canvassers, to collect what has been promised. A large number of valuable prizes have already been promised. The canvas* for prizes will conclude during this wfcek, and immediately afterwards the most valuable prizes will be put cn view and the sale of tickets will commence. It is hoped to organise' a committee ' of young ladies to assist In selling tickets in town. Admission to tho fair on November 28 will be free, so a record attendance is anticipated. A "tank" is being specially made to wander among the crowd and conduct a novcity competition on lines which have recently been most successful in Sydney and Auckland. Among the other attractions will be the distribution of the surprise packets by the Women's Patriotic Committee, and novel .competitions and amusements, including raffles, shooting gallleries. bran-tubs, greasy boom, heop-lfi, jumble and produce stalls, and a- juggling entertainment and wncert in a special tent. There will '6a 40 or 50 money-raising schemes on tie ground, besides free amusements. On Saturday, XovcmbeJ SO, a monster auction sale will probably he held, and the 'tank will be in action in the streets. Vw«r« T/. Ti. Webster, L. A. 'Nolan, and C. Fairhrother are organising a coTlc.etwn of produce and stock in the disttrict from Okato to Lepperton. , A concert is being organised at Bell Block. Permits to raffle valuable articles of jewellery, etc-. have Veen obtained, and competitions for these will fie opened in the' course of the next few days. A further meeting of the Pierrots will he held next 'Friday evening
