A TRAGIC OCCURRENCE.
AT AMBL'LAXCB CAMP. By Telegraph.—Press Palmerston North, Oct, 2T, A tragic occurrence occurred at Awa> puni Ambulance Camp about 7 o'clock this morning- Bonner, an officer's orderly, was handling a returned officer's automatic .pistol in the Y.M.C.A. pre-» raises, when the weapon discharged, going through Bonnsr's hand, severing one or two fingers, and striking Mr. Vance, an elderly man and camp secretary of the Y.M.C.A-, in the right temple. VaJaca was taken to the hospital, and died, about 4.30 to-day. Colonel Cabites, camp commandant, examined the automatic, and found it had been loadad in three chambers. Bonner had been instructed to cleqn up the officer's gear, and was handling the -weapon and casually conversing with Vance wlie# the tragedy occurred.
