The Postmaster-(!cneral lias .furiiisiiied the following particulars of business of the Post and Telegraph rjepurtment for the September quarter of thi.s year The returns, as a whole, are very satisfactory, as compared with those for the corresponding quarter of 1017 The revenue amounted to £430,74!), an increase of £27,000. The principal increases have been in postages ( £17.000), telegrams (£0500), telephone exchange ( £4100) . In the other items there have been slight increases, and in some slight deer es. Money order business shows an all-round increase, while the postal note business has decreased, principally bs .regards 5s and 10s notes. The total of the Savings Bank deposits for the quarter was £4,078,475, and the excess of deposits over withdrawals amounted to the large sum of £010,855. The total number of telegrams forwarded during the quarter was 2,545,045, an increase in all descriptions except press telegrams, which show a decrease in number since last year owing to the reduction of hours for these messages which has taken place in the interval.
