WHISKY ON A TRANSPORT.
DEPUTATION TO MINISTERS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Nignt. Speaking at the Alliance deputation to Mr. Massey and Sir Joseph Ward today, a request was made by trie .Rev. K. S. Gray that an inquiry should be made whether a certain vessel which arrived recently carried about 50,000 cases or casks of whisky; whotlul- that cargo was broached during the passage; whether some of the firemen, as a result of such broaching, became so drunk that the ship was delayed two or three days at sea, and whether some of the passengers had helped to stoki? tlw chip. It was known, Mr. Gray explained, that influenza had caused some delay to the vessel, but it was also de.<sir?d to know whether drunkenness had proil/acted the voyage.
Speakers also asked whether soldiers who had refused to go on guard over the vessel's whisky had been court - martialled. '
Another question was whether 'essential goods had been crowded out of ships in favor of whisky, and definite information was desired in regard to ca.rgo space. The Prime Minister SRid he would facilitate obtaining all the available information for Parliament.
