We are in receipt of £1 from Miss E. Eawson, being a onation towards the Red Cross Our Day Appeal fund. The Rarawa passed the Manukau Heads en route to New Plymouth at 0 p.m. yesterday. She will sail on her return to Onehunga this afternoon.

An election took place yesterday to fill the seat on the Eltham Borough Council vacated by Councillor Parrott. The result of the voting was:—Bridger 147; Stewart, 118. » '

The local trustees of the Efficiency Board met yesterday. In addition to Messrs T Furlong and 15. Whittle, Mr. C. Andrews (Okato), country trustee, was also present, and Mr Thomas Moss, Commissioner on the Board for the Wellington ©istrict, also conferred with the members. Mr. Moss dealt with a number of matters which had been engaging the attention of the board for some time past in connnection with tho regulations for the protection of soldiers' businesses, registration fees for soldiers' children, probate of soldiers' wills, and also with the procedure to be followed for securing leave for men in camp to come hack' to follow farming pursuits- In addition, the local trustees 14 applications which had been submitted to them.

The Minister of Justice decided recently that members of the Police Force should be allowed to decide by vote whether the police should form a Police Association or join t'.-j Public Service Association. A large meeting of all ranks of the Wellington police decided unanimously to join the Public Service Association. Christchurch, Dunedin,an<l Wanganni have already decided to'jofn the Public Service Association. Wellington decided also that the Minister be asked to make it eompnlsorv by regulation fqr all members of the Police Force to become members of the Public Service Association.—Press Assoc.

An excellent supper was supplied by the ladies of the district. At the invitation of Mr. S. G. Smith M.P-, the members of his late committees met at May and Arrowsmith's rooms last night. There was au attendance of between CO and 70, and a very enjoyable evening was spent. Mr. Smith expressed his appreciation of the work of his supporters, and especially the ladies, to secure Ilia return, and the fact that their efforts .had been crowned with success- Members of the committee also expressed warm appreciation of the manner in which Mr Smith had conducted tile contest, and theijr readiness to work again for him at the next general election. ! The proceedings terminated with the singing of "Auld Lang Syne" and "For He's a Jolly Good Fellow," and with cheers for Mr. Smith.

During Hie past few years the public have been privileged to view such masterpieces as "Birth of a Nation" and "Intolerance," by D. W. Griffiths, and "Neptune's Daughter" and "A Daughter of the Gods," by William Fox. This year the honors of the greatest production is again with Mr Pox in the great 'luiman interest play "The Honor System." This wonderful picture is just as full of interest and as lavish in production fcs last year's ■"lntoleranceV' with the added charm that it is all modem in theme. The box plan for the "Honor System" is now on view at Collier's.
