- EAST OF THE MEU3L AMERICANS CUTTING KRELMHILDE LINE. FRANCO-ITALIANS HELPING. Received Oct. 17, 5.5 p.m. Washington, Oct. 18. Some of the Americans west of the Mouse are slowly cutting 'through; the Kreimhilde line, after a savage battle, the French and Italians co-operating. Philip Gibbs writes: 'the Ahglo-l'raneo-Belgian attack gained an important success along the whole line. It is interesting to note that the number of phsonera captured is almost equally divided between the three Allied armies matang 12,000 altogether. The British contribution is 3723, exclusive of wounded, also 50 guns. A German machine-gunner at Rdulers did not surrender until entirely cut off when he was finally silenced. Old women, and haggard, pale men, in peasant clothes, cams from the cellars crying: "We are saved!"
German prisoners seemed well informed about recent events, and their constant refrain was, "We want peace" —Press Assoc.
