GERMAN LOOTERS IN FLANDERS.
CIVILIANS REMOVED. ENEMY IN DEEP POCKET. Received Oct. 17, 7.30 p.m. London, Oct. io. The Havas Agency correspondent on the Flanders front states that numerous German prisoners feave been found carrying property looted at Roulers and elsewhere. They declare that they did this by the actual order of officers whom they named. Five of the latter, who were taken prisoners at Roulers, were arrested. They demanded an interview with the corps commander, but the lat' ter refused to see them, saying that he would have no relations with thieves. The arrested officers will bo courtmartiallcd.
Everywhere Before the victorious advance of the Allies the Germans removed the civilians from Belgian villages, which were then stripped bare. The prisoners are continually asking if the armistice has yet been signed. They agreed that the Kaiser must go, and said that the Crown Prince did not count. "We don't bother about hhn."
Owing to the unsuitability of the swampy ground hereabouts the British are not using tanks, but the French tanks are doing great service. A combined attack already threatens the Germans in the coastal region between Nienport and Ostend. They must hurriedly withdraw from the narrow eorrldor, otherwise tho door will be slatntned on them. More to the southward our advance towards Cottrtrai puts the enemy in the lille neighborhood into a deep pocket, while Douai is almost encircled.—Reuter.
