| New* has been received tlrat Rifleman S. S. Butt, of UrUti, has been wounded and admitted to hospital in England. Mr C, B. Morison, K.C., of Wellington, is at present on a professional visit to New Plymouth. In a list of temporary appointments at Trentham Camp it is notified that Private P. R. Sheppard has been given the rank of lance-corporal. A Sydney cable reports the death of the Right Rev. Bislbop M. J. Stonewigg, controller of the Church Standard, and formerly Bishop of New Guinea. Mi*; G.iH. F. Maopherson, of the inspectorial'staff of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd., who has been located in Wellington for the past three years, has been promoted to the managership of the company ft Hawera branch; Mrs Biggs, of Nolantown, who passsed away'on Wednesday at the age of 67 years, was ail old colonist who landed in Lyttslton in 1850. He lived in the South Island until about 11 years ago. He lost one son at Gallipoli, and has one still on active service. !He leaves a widow, three sons and four daughters to mourn their loss.—StarThe death is reported from Masterton of Mrs. W. H. Beetham, who had been a resident of New Zealand for nearly 40 years. Mrs. Beetham had many friends in the Wairampa and elsewhere.
At the meeting of the Life-saving Society on Wednesday evening, on tihe motion of Mr & G. Smith, M.P., a resolution was passed expressing sympathy with Mr J. Bennett (who presided) in the loss sustained by the death of his brother, Private Henry Bennett, and lit was decided to forward a letter of condolence to Mr (3. A. Wilkinson, U.V., in connection with the death of his son, Lieut. Harold Wilkinson, M.ti., tiroix deGuerre (Beige.)
