WAITARA.

(From Our .Own Correspondent.) Waitara, Oct.' 17. The many friends of Sergeant C. H. Tate, who is now serving with the mounted troops in Palestine, will be pleased to learn he has passed the necessary examination for a commission. The expected visit of the Minister for Agriculture did not eventuate yesterday, Mr. Cudide, Director of the Dairying Division, taking his place at the conference of representatives of the dairying industry. At the meeting no definite conclusion was arrived at.

The Mayor has called a special meeting of the Borough Council for tomorrow evening for the purpose of considering- the financial position and tak-, ing steps to meet the difficulty. Mr. Vauihan has completed planting the grov-1 at the hack of the Clifton county oiiices with potatoes, and the proceeds will again be devoted to patriotic purposes. This is a project which will commend itself to everyone, as, apart from benefiting the funds, it will increase production, which in these times is very desirable. Over 200 tons of canned meats were railed away from the Waitara Harbor Board sheds yesterday by Messrs Borthwiok and Sons. The first valuation of the season for wool will take place here on November 12 Unless the weather remains fine it is not expected there will be a large offering.
