FIGHTING IN STREETS. London, Oct. 13. Sir Douglas Haig reports: Eastward of the Scheldt canal we took possession of Montrecourt and reached the outskirts of Lieu St. Amand. In the Douai sector we arc now within a few hundred yards of the town and have captured the Fauborg d'Esquercihin, the Douai prison, and the greater part of Flers.

The Press Bureau reports that 548 German aeroplanes were destroyed or disabled on the western front in September, and 59 balloons destroyed. Two hundred and thirty-six British machines are missing.
