THE PASSING OF A PIONEER.
Tho Moa district has lost another of its earliest settlers in the person of Mr. William Marsh Goble, who died on Sunday, the 6th inst., at the ripe Age of SO years. The late Mr. Goble was a native of Kent, England, whence he came to New Zealand in tlie -ship Champion of the Seas, landing at 1 Auckland sixty years ago. He spent the early yeajra of his colonial life chiefly in the Wangauui district, where he was married. the first move to open up the hinterlands of Taranaki was made by the Government offering the Moa block for selection 43 years ago, he was one of the first to take advantage of the opportunity, and secured a section on the Norfolk Road, some three miles south of Inglewood. Here, he made his home and reared hia family-until advancing years induced him to retire from active farm life, though he continued to reside- there until recently, when he removed to Stratford, whore fois death' took place. Of a retiring disposition, the late Mr. Goblc took - no prominent active part in public affairs, but quietly attended to his own concepts, and made hia home where he [had selected.
