ELTHAM.
(From Our Own Correspondent) Eltham, Oct. 8. At a meeting of the Drmds' Order last evening, a presentation of a set of military brushes was.made to Private Gordon McKay P.D.P. Bro. E. Parrott made the presentation, and in doing so wished the soldier on leave a safe voyage across and baek. Messrs A. A- Stewart, J. L. Campbell, and I. J. Bridger Have been mentioned u likely candidates for the vacancy on the Borough Council created by the resignation of Mr. E, Pan-ott. Messrs Campbell and Bridger have been reported as being successful in passing medical examinations for military service, so probably may not go to the poll. Under the circumstances, Mr- Sjtewart may be the only nomination., Thanksgiving services were held at the three churches (Anglican, Presbyterian, and Methodist) and,also at the Salvation Army Hall on Sunday, in connection with the recent victories on both Eastern and Western fronts. A donation of £1 has been received from Mrs. J. Kelleher (Rotokare Road) for the Soldiers' Comforts Guild. The members are sending parcels for Samoa this weeek.
