INVALIDED SOLDIERS ARRIVE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Sunday. Transport jSTo. IST arrived this morning. There were deaths on the voyage. The troops disembarked to-morrow morning. Men for the South Island, excluding Kelson and Marlborough leave at 5.40 p.m. to-morrow and those for Wellington, Nelson and Marlborough at 7.30 p.m. AUXILIARY SCHOONER ON EIRE RESCUED JUST EST TIME. Auckland, Oct. 0. The Northern Steamship Company's auxiliary schooner Grayhound (Captain McKinnon) en route from Auckland to Hokianga caught fire off Kawau Island on Saturday evening. She was towed back to port with the after part of the vessel in flames, and the engineroom and cabin gutted. The fire originated near the benzine tank in the engine-room. The crew' 3 effort to extinguish the fire with handpump and buckets were of no avail. Tihe Glenelg, which was bound to Auckland, and passed the (greyhound a. quarter of an hour before, saw the accident and went alongside the burning vessel and towed her to Auckland. On tlie way the Glenelg's crew kept a stream of water from their steam pump playing on the flames and also took on board their vessel YO cases o£ benzine, which was stowed near the lire. The vessel reached the Hobson Street wharf at 11.15 p.m., where the City fire brigade was waiting. It took two hours before the flames were subdued. The hull is charred on the inside aft, and the cargo damaged by water.
