CLASSES OF INSTRUCTION.
ABOARD A TRANSPORT, By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. The- returned men benefited considerably by the voyage, and there are no cot cases. During the voyage an experiment was made in the direction of providing classes of instruction for soldiers. Two-hour lessons were given daily on four educational and 12 vocational subjects. Of the later, by far the greater number of men chose farming as the subject they intended to study, and instruction was given by Captjiin Vercoe, D.5.0., D.C.M., assisted by Captain R. Ivwin, Sergeant T. G Batt, and Private V. D. Wood. They attracted large classes. For educational subjects the men were divided into four groups, and five consecutive lectures were given on commerce, economics, English history, and general knowledge was given to each in the case of smaller classes. In French, English, mathematics, technics, shorthand, bookkeeping, chemistry, and architecture, very good progress was made. On the whole, the experiment was considered a success. It is tlie. intention of the authorities to hold .similar classes on all New Zealand-bound transports.
