LAST LINE BROKEN.
OP HINDEXBURG SYSTEM. FRENCH SUBSTANTIALLY ADVANCE. Received Oct. 7, 7.40 p.m London, Oct. «. Yesterday's attack north of St. Quentin and on an ejght-mile front broke through the last line of the Hindenburg system. In this area we advanced from two to three miles along a 13-miie front betweeß Lens and Armentieres, but we have not yet entered Armentieres. The French have substantially advanced south of the Aisne, clearing the whole area between the Aisne and the Vesle. They also subsequently advanced in the western Argonne, capturing Orfeuil and Mont Blanc, which is a high hill of considerable tactical importance. They advanced 10 miles in this sector since September 2G.—Aua.-N.Z. Cable Assoc.
