BRITISH AND FOREIGN BIBLE SOCIETY.
AUXILIARY RE-FORMED. A largely attended gathering of representative citizens met at the Hygienic luncheon rooms yesterday, under the auspices of the New Plymouth Ministers' Association, for the purpose of conferring with the Revs. F. Spencer and A. T. 'Thompson, M.A., 8.D., organising secretaries for New Zealand for the British and Foreign Bible Society, with a view to re-establishing an auxiliary of the society in Taranaki.
His Worship the Mayor presided, and after the luncheon both the representatives of the Bible Society addressed those present on the work and aims of the society, which in the main is to make it possible for every person in the j world to obtain a copy of the Bible in his own language. They urged the reforming of the TaranakL- auxiliary of the society, and this was agreed to, Messrs C. E. Bellringeiy A. S._ Brooker, and Denny-Brown being appointed an executive to take the matter in hand by forming a general committee. Subsequently the gentlemen named met the representatives of the society, and Mr. Denny-Brown was appointed convenor, and Mr. A. S. Brooker treasurer. Subscriptions to the work may be handed jn to the treasurer. Several amounts were received at the meeting. The society's agents go to Hawera. to-day, when they will meet the business men of that town.
