NEW PLYMOUTH BOROUGH COUNCIL.

WORKS COMMITTEE. The Works Committee of the New Plymouth Borough Council met last night, there being present: His Worship the Mayor' (Mr. C. H. Burgess) and Crs. G. W. Browne, W. A. Collis, P. W. Short, F. J. Hill, R. J. Deare, and J. Clarke. An apology for absence was received from Cr. J. W. Hayden.

Complaints regarding the" effect of storm water in John Street and Ridge Lane on Friday night last were received from Archdeacon Evans, Messrs J. W. McNeill, and J. R. Cruickshank, all of whom asked the council to take steps to remedy the trouble which menaced the properties in the locality, » The engineer reported on the matter, stating that he intended submitting proposals for effectually dealing with the trouble.

Commandant Rowlands, of the New Plymouth corps of the Salvation Army, applied for permission to take up a collection in the streets on Saturday, October 26, on behalf of the self denial fund.—Permission was granted.

Authority was given for the purchase of a horse "for the sanitary department.
