AMERICAN VESSEL LOST. ... ■ New York, Oct. 3. The Tampa was engaged on convoy duty on September 26 in the Bristol Channel when a torpedo is believed to hav« struck her. The explosion caused her to sink before there was a possibility of rescuing a single man on board. A quantity of wreckage was discovered later. Ten American officers were on board.
