ENEMY COLUMN CAP TUBED New York, Oct 3. The Australians captured an entire Turkish column north-east of Damascus and made 1500 prisoners.—Aus. N.Z. Cable Assoc. DAMASCUS LEFT IN PEACE. London, Oct. 3. A Palestine official report states: Australian mounted men entered Damascus on the night of Monday, and at 6 o'clock in the morning the city was occupied by the British and a portion of the Arab army under King Hussein. Over 7000 prisoners were taken. ' After the surrender, excepting necessary guards, all the Allied troops were withdrawn from the city, and, for the present, the local authorities aro responsible for its administration. —Aus. N.Z. A Palestine communique states: The I Australian mounteds, on October 2, captured a column of tlie enemy in the vicinity of Kubbetaisafir, seventeen miles north-west of Damascus, prisonering I 1500, and capturing two guns and forty machine guns.
