Barney Sherry p 7 m ß,mtaina his reputation as one ot the foremost of screen actors. As Nicholas Eyre he plays the part of a steel magnate, who himself was like tempered steel. The story centres round the fact that Robert 'Lathron became a slave to the charms of Lola lonroe a vampire whose evil influence causes lnm to wreck his business in Older to satisfy her demands for luxury and still more luxury. At last he applies to his friend Eyre for financial assistance and is at first refused. Later through his wife's influence he obtains it and hastens to Lola only to find lier m the arms of another man. A fio'it ensues and Lathrop is killed. His wife in spite of the verdict of suicide, is convinced that Eyre is morally responsible for her husband's death, being under the impression that Eyre drove him to desperation. How slhe decides to be revenged and the method she adopts to achieve her ends give the title to thn play and make an intensely gripping story, i And how her intention of revenge is unexpectedly changed makes a fine climax. Olga Gray plays the part of the vampire very effectively and wears some striking, not to say daring gowns.
MATINEE AT THE EMPIRE. FATTY ARBTJCKLE AND MABEL KORMAND. The kiddies will have a joyous time at the Empire theatre matinee this afternoon -where Fatty Arbuckle and Mabel Normand star in a screaming four reel comedy "Fatty and Mabel Adrift," easily one of the funniest comedies ever seer, in New Plymouth. There are several other special films including a Fox comedy, "A Lass of the Lumberlands," the Co-operative Weekly' and another two-reel comedy, "Rough Stuff." The programme for to-night will be headed by the- splendid Vitagraph feature from 0. Henry's stories "An American Liv« Wire,'' in wihich the leading parts aro taken by Grace Dannond and E'arle Williams. COMING MONDAY. CLARA KIMBALL YOUNG IN "SHIRLEY KAYE." The popular Empress of Emotion, Clara Kimball Young, will make a welcome re-appearance at the Empire nextMonday and Tuesday in the latest big Selznick film triumph "Shirley Kaye" This is the first of Miss Young's personal productions, with the star iu the stelar role of a society girl, who suddenly enters the world of frenzied finance, t "THE AUCTION BLOCK" AT EVERYBODY'S NEXT MONDAY. Rex Beach's wonderfully vivid and successful society novel "The Auction Block," will be presented in motion picture form at Everybody's next Tuesday and Wednesday. "The Auction Block" combines ill rare atyie all sorts of things pleasant to think upon, and very absorbing to see. Life runs high ill Hie film, and plot mingles with counter-plot through the action. The stories of love, of revenge and hatred, of financial doings and of concealed scandals will hold every bit of everybody's attention right along to the close. The film having been made by the Goldwyn Corporation, there is nothing to hinder everybody from becoming acquainted with the visual form of this splendid human drama. "The Auction Block" is thoroughly interesting right from first to last, and has a plenitude of scenes picturing all the strongest elements of human nature The box plan for boiJh nights are open at Collier's and intending patrons are reminded-that seats may be reserved without extra' charge.
