THE COAL INQUIRY.
COMPREHENSIVE- INVESTIGATIONS. By Telegraph.—Press. Association. Christeliureh, Last Night. The Board of Trade is investigating the coal-mining industry and the cost of production from the- time tlic coal is hewn until it readies the consumer. Hight, professor of economics at Canterbury College, who has been appointed to -ibe a member of the board during the investigations, says he began investigations at Wellington a fortnight ago, then went to Auckland, where he took evidence and surveyed the position generally in the Auckland djstriet. He next proceeded to the Waikato, and is now at Christchureh, where the inquiry will be resumed to-morrow. The board will then vi,sit Otago. Southland, and the West Coast. The investigations are being made very thorough, including the oiiestion- of the cost of living in coalmining districts.
