It is stated that' £ISOO lias been received by the Country Copper Trail in connection with the JM Cross appeal. The town committee have not yet made an announcement as to liow they stand regarding subscriptions. On Saturday the Mart and Tea Kooms are expecteij to produce a goodly sum bv* means -of produce and refreshments. Several donations of articles have bsen promised that should sell readily.
To celebrate Bulgaria's declaration for peace, thb Mayor intends addressing the citizens of Stratford from the balcony of the Pictures. The Stratford Band will attend.
During the month of September, 20 births were registered, 3 deaths, and 5 marriages.
Another Stratford boy, Trooper Eoy Lobb, who left with the 24th Reinforcements, is reported to have died from wounds on -September 2.5. Much sympathy will be felt for his mother, Mrs. 13. Lobb, of Swansea Road, in her great loss.
After a stay of -2J years with the N.Z Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Miss Annie Cromie, who finds the climate too severe, has relinqnihsed her position. Occasion Vas taken before Miss Cromie left to present her with a neat brooch, to commemorate her stay with the firm, Mr.'W. A. Hewitt, general manager speakincr in high terms of the manner in which the voung Indv has carried out her duties, and wished her evcrv success in sunnv Auckland. Mr. J- En wright (MidhlrsO. who is now a civilian, 'hut has seen service at the front, is also leaving for Auckland. He has tnkr>n a keen intermit. in the formation of a branch of the "Returned Soldiers' Association in .Stratford consequently it was no surprise to learn that his comrades have met him and. in reof his services, presented him with a smoker's ou£t—a "ift that should prove very acceptable to the sold'ef.
