(From Our Own Correspondent.) Eltbam, Oct. 1. At the Burlington Tea Rooms yesterday, the ladies who assisted in helping to ilniild up the finances of the School Committee were entertained by that body After refreshments had been partaken of, the chairman /Mr I. J Bridger) intimated the appreciation of the committee at the successful efforts of the ladies in controlling the various entertainments held during the winter months. By these means £3O had been secured, which, with the subsidy, meant £CO to assist the committee in carrying out their work. He desired that the ladies shouM keep together and give their assistance in further projects contemplated that tended to improve the school. A picture benefit would he held shortlv. and the ladies could assist in this direction- He mentioned the desire to have an open-air crass for instruction, and also appealed to parents to make as much use of the school a3 possible. and not to send their children out of EKham for instruction. Air. E Cray (Lowgnrthl, who had one son back from the front some months ago, has now another son, Private R. Cray, wounded. His numerous friends wish that the casnaltv will not prove serious. and that he will soon recover The Patriotic Tea Rooms were controlled bv Mrs. Horrocks. and netted £l3 10s 7d—a very acceptable sum. A dance held at Mata in aid of the Soldiers' Comforts fiuild secured £3 ss. whilst other donations for the same obiect were £0 from Mangatoki ladies and 5s from Mrs. H. Stanners. The following 'Fitham soldiers are expected back from the front shortly:— T,. N. Nmthovev, A. D. Murray, and T. Thompson.
