WELLINGTON TRAMWAYS.
GOVERNMENT INTERVENTION. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. In an endeavor to bring about a settlement of the tramway dispute the Acting Prime Minister, on behalf of the Acting Minister of Labor, has written the Mayor and president of the union requesting delegates from each side to meet under the presidency of the Conciliation Commissioner. The Minister state 3 that it is recognised that the men are working under an unexpired agreement, but in view of the fact that the cost of living has increased since the agreement was made, and the men claim that the working of the customary overtime is injurious to their health, the Government considered that in the interests of industrial peace an effort should be made to reach a settlement acceptable to both parties. The union was informed that pending the result of the conference the men must immediately resume the full performance of their duties.
