GOVERNMENT CONTROL OF TRENTIIAM CANTEEN. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Sept. 24. It is probable that the Trenthani Camp canteen, which has up to the present been run by private contract, will be taken over by the Defence Department on tho expiry of the contract at tho end of October. The question of buildings, etc., is now being investigated with a view to this course. Every since the establishment of the camp in-1914 tho canteen has been under private management, and the revenue derived from it lias ben paid to various units pro rata for their recreation and other funds. In the course for four years many thusands of pounds have been allocated in this way. On November 15, 1917, the Government assumed management of the canteens at Featherston and Tauheronikau camps. It was then stated that if the experiiti-- proved successful Trenthani would b.> i.iiilarry treated. The Featherston management was placed in the hands of a special canteen committee, under the presidency of Captain Andrew. The prices of most lines were reduced by as much as 25 per cont., and yet found a. fairly substantial profit for regimental funds. INFLUENZA AT TRENTHAM. Wellington, Yesterday.
