THE EMPIRE. | TRIUMPHANT 'RETURN OP MABEL il XOUMAND IN -THE FLOOR BELOW." j Judging by the hearty reception given Mabel Xorinand in the big Goldwyn fea- | ture, "The Floor Below," at the Empire last night, this old favorite comedienne is going to be even more popular now she lias returned as a brilliant emotional actress. 'The Floor Below" is one of thoso stories that combine mystery, thrill, suspense, and above all, a story of love, and everyone will love Mabel in the role of "Patsy." She is a fascinating, but decidedly frivolous young lady who works in a Jiewspaper office. For one of her pranks she is discharged, but is given another chance provided she can unearth a certain suspected gang of "crooks." It's a case of a little girl on a big, big job. Here she meets a man whom 9he soon learns to love, and who in turn loves her But, horror, be believes her to be a thief Yet later, when she is caught red-handed, lie cannot believe her guilty and implores her to deny the charge. At one step she readies the pinnacle of happiness, and without a word to him she goes away. Triumph brings her only the memory of lost happiness, but the' story does not end here To appreciate the full ef- | feet the picture must be seen. "The i Floor Below" will be screened again tonight with the third episode of the a Bushman-Bayne serial, "The Great Sec- , ret," and a Pathe Gazette. EVERYBODY'S, "THE CIRCUS OF DEATH" TO-NIGHT J There is no doubt that the motion pic- | turc artist of to-day lias at times to | take some very great risks in order to B present that realism which is an absol ™ ute essential if the picture is to grip its § audience. Some particularly thrilling feats are performed in "The Circus of Death," a big Cines feature to be shown at Everybody's to-night and to-morrow Without any "faking" or attempt to deceive there are incidents depicted that bring your heart into your mouth and make you grip your seat in order to allay the excitement of the moment. It is realism with vengeance, of a distinct and original character, unaided by trick photography or any artificial means, in which the intrepid' Miss Evelyn, who created such a sensation by her wonderful realism in "The Jockey of Death," gives abundant evidence of her wonderful gymnastic ability, her daring, and her ' powers as an actress. But it is not only for sensationalism that the subject is worthy of commendation; it has a distinctly interesting story, many fine effective scenes especially dealing with circus life Supporting this picture tonight there will be a tig Mutual special drama, "The Serpents' Tooth," starring Gail Kane, and a scenic number "The Circus of Death'' will be screened at a special matinee to-morrow afternoon commencing at ,3.30 'which will enable all school children to be -present at this screening.
