NEW ZEALAND DIVISION.

ONE OF THE BEST. ] In the course of a speech in Karori on j Monday, Sir James Allen said: ! "I get accounts of the New Zealand Division constantly from the front, and sonic accounts from those who do not belong to New Zealand, and I think it will be satisfactory to you to know that the New Zealand Division to-day is looked upon as one of the best—and possibly the best—on the Western front. (Applause.) "The policy we have adopted of continuing- to send reinforcements to support our division, has put it in this position: that whereas it became necessary a little time ago for other divisions to be reduced in numbers, the New Zealand Division has always stood at full strength, so that whenever it has been called upon to do something that is thoroughly difficult —we have never failed because of the spirit of our young men—the spirit that was in their fathers, and mothers who came here, the pioneers of the early days. That spirit was in them, and behind them was the assurance that the country was with them. The general officers commanding the New Zealand Division, and the officer,! and men, all know that away back in their own land the people are thinking of and working for them constantly and energetically; and I want to praise, the women for what they have done and an I doing. The men at the front realise that the people are determined that they shall be supported; that if one man falls an- I other will take his place. That assur- 9 ance has given them courage. They had § plenty of it before; but it. gives them I courage to go on and succeed whan others ! possibly might have failed. |
