At Friday's meeting of the S.M. Court, before Mr A. Crooke, S.M., the county ranger, Mr Milner, had a field day, several farmers bctiug fined for allowing straying stoi>s driving without lights, etc. Horace il'MJfijr,, two charges of straying stock, was fined £1 and 10s, with cost 17s in each instance. F. Zureher, Toko, similar offence, £l, costs 7s, W. Mountford ss, and costs 17s for horses found straying at Midhirst. J. Neilson, also of Midhirst , for similar complaint 10s and costs 17s. A Toko road settler, J. L. Lucena 10s ami costs

7 for allowing two horses and 45 head of cattle to graze on the roads, although in charge of two boys. Another Toko road offender, J. Scott, a similar fine and costs for allowing lo cattle to be at large. A. Myers was fined £1 and costs £1 9s 9d for driving a horse and gig without lights.

Judgment was given for plaintiff in the following civil business: Egniont Clothing Company (Mr Fookes) v. T. Allen, claim £3 8s 9d, cost 3 10a; Dr *Paget (Mr Coleman) v. G. Savage, £ls 2s 6d, easts £2 6d; same v. K. Ryan £lB 19s and costs £1 lis Od; Hopkins and Davis (Mr Coleman) v. T. Northcott £3 ss, costs 19s; C. Arden (Mr Spence) v. F. Conute. £5, costs £1 tid; Mcßain and Childs (Mr Spence) v. F. Devon, £1 2s Od, costs ss. 3. J. Ritchie, who did not appear, was ordered to pay £ls lis 2d before the 25th inst. to F. Fund campaign are working energetically to secure a substantial amount by means of their £2O donation scheme. Up to Saturday evening the total amount of this fund was £930. and further amounts had been promised, so that no doubt particulars of these will be handed in at the meeting of committee and canvassers at 2.30 this (Tuesday) afternoon The latest subscriptions are as under:—Amount previously acknowledged £SOO. .T. At the close of the choir practice on Friday evening, the members St. Andrew's Church farewelled Misses M. Reid and A. Ctomie. Miss Reid is leaving shortly for Hawke's Bay, and Miss Cromie is removing to Auckland Both ladies have made themselves deservedly popular in church matters, hence it was no surprise to hear the Rev. J. D. Madill and Messrs Bctts and Tissiman speak in high terms of these ladies' work in church matters, the speakers wishing the ladies the best of luck and prosperity in their new duties

The Friesian Breeders' Association held a meeting here on Saturday, Mr H. Johnson being in the chair. Judges were selected for the next A. and P. show. The secretary was requested to write to the New Zealand Council, requesting the council to inquire into the action of a breeder in selling cattle when they were not registered, yet claimed to be pedigree. It was also resolved to write the council for a donation of special prizes for Friesian cattle.

Messrs W. J. Freeth, W. R. Hancock, A Western, A. Morrison, and O. Jones have been elected members of the Stratford branch of the Jersey Breeders' Association.

The Returned Soldiers' Association anticipates a good attendance of dancers at the fancy dress ball to be held in the Town Hall on Thursday evening. The floor will he found in splendid order, and Hie music of the best. It should also be noted that Jialf the proceeds are to go to the town efforts in connection with the Copper Trail competition on behalf of the Red Cross appeal. The Midhirst concert, in aid of the

school funds, held last evening, proven very enjoyable, and the financial results should be very satisfactory. The school children look a prominent: and pleasing part in the programme. Their items included action song, '•Rub-a-dub/' "The Mice and the Cheese," "Nursery Rhyme Land," "When Grandma was a Little Girl," "Somo Hearts will be Joyful," etc. Miss Fever, quite a young girl was very successful in her solos, whilst Mrs Halcher and Miss Martin scored successes in their items. Mr Linnet! supplied the comedy, singing several ditties is his inimitale ?U-\e. Mr Bert Yinsen, well known to North Taranaki audiences, caught on well with his imitation brass band'selections. The Medical Board on Friday examined 51 men and classed 10 fit, 5 CI, 2 B2 and the remapjdetr C2.
