Coleman and J. Todd, organisers of the bachelors' social, had every reason to be satisfied with the success- of the function held at Pukengahu' last night, the financial results being close on £lO, which will go to the Copper Trail. Songs were contributed by Misses Hanscorobe and Sullivan, Miss Leach, Miss Hanscombe, Misses Moon and Sullivan (duets), Mr.-Tom Wilson, and Mr. James. Solos (and duets) with the violin and piano were contributed by Mr. and Mrs. W Christofel. The accompaniments were play[4l by Misses Moon, Hanscombe, .Tamos, rnd O'Neill. Mrs. Bianchi presided at the pip.no for the dance, extras being contributed by Misses Moon and James, and the duties of If 'sC. were carried OJt by Mc.-'?rs Coleman and Todd. Mr. A. Coleman lias taken a big interest in patriots work, and deserves mention for placing his car at the disposal of' all committees, whether for Copper Trail, Tobacco Fund, or other function. It is safe to predict a crowded bouse at the fancy dress ball to be held by the Stratford branch of the Returned Soldiers' Association in the Town Wall next Thursday. The association intend jiving half the proceeds to the Copper Trail. i'he committee have already procured the music and completed other arrangements. At the County Council meeting on Saturday, Cr. CWill protested asramst work in the South Riding, which was j'lit a3 urgent as elsewhere being left aside. It wac pointed out that the consideration of tenders was reviewed by t'ie council and the various roads to ? .>e attended to named. Cr. O'Neill repeat- j ed thnt he thought the work authorised J was for absolutely necessary work, and there was more need of maintenance worl> in his riding thaii for some of the other localities. There are plenty of folks who appreciate nice pictures in the home. To those on the look-out for illuminations fit to grace any walls, wp can recommend a call at C E. .Tames' Warehouse.
