'flie Red Cross Society is worthy of every support, because there is no other organisation which does so much to alleviate the sufferings of our hoys who are wounded whil- .aking their part in the struggle to uphold those ideals which have enabled the British Empire to attain the position it holds in the world. The Stratford and Whangamomona country committee, which has been making an active canvass on behalf of the £2O donation list, is to be congratulated on the success so far achieved, and the liberal response of the settlers, as dis-clu-'.ed by the following list of donations, is most commendable:—(Mrs. C. The Ladies' Patriotic Committee have or-eani-ed a large body of workers to attend to the supper arrangement*, whilst the men's committee promise to have a floor of the beat for the dance. The music bv Mr Kov.'s orchestra should give nerfect satisfaction. Competition for rhe trophies offered has elicited a large entry. Recently a townsman announced his H'iHincne-TS to donate CriO toward" the Town Copper Fund, provided five others would do the same. Althoiurh this offer has been open for several days, it is 'm.lorstood thnt only one ?entlejnan has n'Vred to make his a similar, amount. There is yet time for four others to for•vard the half-century, so as to bring (ha amount to £3OO for a commencement. GENERAL.
